Palmarejo Mine Rescue Team Receives Award in National Rescue Competition

On September 23 and 25, our rescue team was invited to join a group of 32 regional competition winners in the XIV National Mine Rescue Competition, held in the city of Durango, Mexico. Similar to the regional competition, this event involved responding to a series of rescue scenarios as well as completing theory examinations. Tactical rescue skills, the use of a breathing apparatus and first aid in both underground and surface mine environments were tested. A select panel of judges evaluated the skills of each team based on recognized international standards, including those provided by the U.S. Mine Safety and Health Administration and the American National Standards Institute.

As with our awards in the regional competition in January, we were extremely pleased to learn that our mine rescue team was awarded third place in this prestigious National competition. Achieving the award is a fantastic recognition of the hard work and constant training that our mine rescue team commits to every day. It is also underscores the importance of our efforts to continually forge a spirit of excellence and embody our Coeur Values.

We look forward to participating in future events like the National Mine Rescue Competition as they allow us to rigorously test our abilities, helping us always achieve Coeur’s goal of ensuring health and safety at all times at our mine.
